Specialist, Retail Operations - Inventory Process & Control Excellence
Are you an analytical and investigative professional who knows how to uncover the reasons behind inventory discrepancies and operational losses? Do you enjoy turning complex findings into practical controls, clearer processes, and measurable improvements? Then, keep on reading!
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and self-driven Specialist, Retail Operations – Inventory Process & Control Excellence to strengthen inventory accuracy, operational controls, and process excellence across our global O&O retail network.
This role requires a strong combination of hands-on retail store experience and corporate/head-office experience. You understand how processes and controls work both on paper and in the reality of a busy retail environment, and you can translate between the needs of stores, markets, and global functions. You will independently manage projects and improvement initiatives end to end, investigate operational risks and discrepancies, and turn insights into practical, scalable solutions that improve performance and reduce loss.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently manage projects and initiatives end to end, from scoping and planning through implementation and follow-up
- Own project plans, timelines, deliverables, risks, and stakeholder communication, and lead cross-functional process improvement, standardization, and control initiatives
- Support the implementation of new systems, tools, controls, and ways of working
- Monitor inventory accuracy, stock integrity, shrink, and operational control performance, and analyse stocktake and cycle count results, inventory adjustments, and exceptions
- Investigate inventory discrepancies, cash variances, fraud, refund abuse, and discount misuse
- Conduct root cause analysis and translate findings into corrective and preventative actions
- Identify trends and control gaps and develop practical solutions to reduce operational risk
- Develop and improve SOPs, operational controls, and process documentation, as well as support audit, compliance, and control-related initiatives
- Simplify, standardize, and strengthen processes across markets, and translate store-level operational challenges into scalable global solutions
- Develop reporting, dashboards, and actionable insights across inventory, shrink, fraud, cash, and compliance
- Translate complex data into clear recommendations and management presentations
- Partner across Retail Operations, Finance, Supply Chain, Internal Audit, HR, Physical Security, Digital & Technology, and market teams
- Influence stakeholders across functions and seniority levels without direct authority
What is needed to succeed
You are a hands-on retail professional who has successfully transitioned into a corporate or head-office environment and can confidently operate in both worlds. You understand the operational reality behind the numbers and processes, but you can also step back, analyse complex problems, manage projects, influence stakeholders, and develop solutions that can be implemented at scale. You are comfortable working independently and taking full ownership from problem identification through solution design, implementation, and follow-up. You are structured, commercially minded, data-driven, and motivated by creating simpler processes, stronger controls, and better store execution.
Additionally, we expect that you have and can demonstrate:
- 4-6+ years of relevant experience across retail operations, inventory management, operational excellence, project management, loss prevention, audit, finance controls, or related areas
- Substantial hands-on experience working in retail stores is required, providing a strong understanding of day-to-day store operations, inventory processes, stock handling, controls, and operational challenges
- Substantial corporate/head-office experience is also required, ideally within Retail Operations, Inventory, Operational Excellence, Loss Prevention, Finance, Audit, or a related function
- Experience from both store and office environments, and ability to connect strategic or global processes with the practical realities of store execution
- Demonstrated project management experience, with the ability to independently lead projects from initiation through implementation and completion
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis
- Experience with inventory controls, stocktakes, cycle counts, investigations, or loss prevention
- Experience developing and implementing SOPs, operational processes, and controls
- Ability to work autonomously, take ownership, and manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, and presentation skills
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with reporting or BI tools
